Russia: The publication includes materials about new rolling stock and components by TMH, the experience of locomotive delivery for Nornickel, the results of the TMH: New Vision acceleration program and much more.

Top 5 facts from the magazine:

1️⃣ 1350 kW is the power capacity of the 61-4551 generator coach produced at the Tver Carriage Works (part of TMH). TMH claims that this is enough for the energy and heating supply of a passenger train with up to 23 single-deck or 15 double-deck coaches. A three-unit KAMSS-1875-1D-52 diesel power plant developed by TMH Engineering is integrated into the coach. A fuel reserve for 14 hours is provided. The coach is planned to go on trials on the RZD’s network. This generator coach is suitable for operation on non-electrified sections of rail networks.

2️⃣ The specific energy consumption of the DTA-380U1 asynchronous traction motor created by TMH is more than 2 times lower than it was required in the technical specification. New propulsion equipment has been developed by TMH since 2018 and is used in the new Ivolga 3.0 electric train supplied by TMH for the Moscow Central Diameter urban railway system. The complete drive set was assembled and supplied by the Key Systems and Components Group. It is installed on motor cars: Ivolga 3.0 includes 5 such units.

3️⃣ 21 diesel locomotives manufactured by the Bryansk Engineering Plant (part of TMH) are currently in operation at the polar branch of Norilsk Nickel. Vehicles make up a third of the company’s fleet. These are 3 2TE25KM mainline locomotives, 9 TEM18DM shunters and 9 TEM2UM shunters. Until 2030, Norilsk Nickel plans to upgrade about 30 more vehicles. The mainline 2TE25KM diesel locomotive made it possible to increase the average weight of trains on the Norilsk – Dudinka route from 2,600 to 3,000 t. However, Сhief Engineer of the Nornickel railway system Oleg Safin notes that the operator would like TMH to insulate the body of the engine room due to cold climate conditions (frost down to -50 °С, strong winds and snowfalls). Also, he proposed several updates for TEM18DM shunters: to install cameras in addition to mirrors and boxes for equipment and to change the installation location of the water level sensor in the expansion tank.

4️⃣ Metrowagonmash (part of TMH) has capacities to produce 800 cars annually. The production site is specialized in the manufacturing of metro cars and diesel multiple units. This year Metrowagonmash celebrates 125 years since its foundation, and a large-scale modernization program has been implemented at the site in recent years.

5️⃣ Over 200 applications across 29 urban rail transport topics were received in the first year of the TMH: New Vision acceleration program. Two companies – TEEMP and TPS-Energy Systems – presented braking energy recovery solutions based on energy storage and supercapacitor technologies. In turn, AMT&C Group proposed the use of electric drives with permanent magnets. The Kinetic company has presented a new solution for the traction systems of metro trains. It should allow to reduce the weight and dimensions of traction system while maintaining the cost and functionality. Solutions for rolling stock service, design and materials, comfort and safety of transportation were also proposed. As a result of the competition, 18 finalists personally presented their proposals to TMH, and the producer will work with them on the possibility to implement the offered technologies in rolling stock.
