EU: GATX Rail Europe has announced that all leasing contracts will include the Basic Telematics Package to track the location of railcars online at no additional cost from March.

GATX installs GPS X-Rayl sensors by the Austrian DOT Telematik und Systemtechnik and uses a cloud platform to process, store and provide data for customers by the German kasasi. The platform is compatible with other similar systems.

GATX advanced package provides load status, lock and hatch status, impact detection, temperature and other sensors as well as integration of tracking data with ERP systems.

In North America, GATX is part of the joint venture RailPulse with six railcar manufacturers and operators to create their own telemetry system. In January 2024, the company announced that it would equip its freight cars with ZTR sensors.
