Romania: The train, manufactured at the Taubaté plant in Brazil, has arrived at the Berceni depot this week.

Its adjustment and tests are scheduled to begin on 14 May, with trial runs to follow. In autumn, the Alstom train will commence passenger service on Line M5. Another nine trains are due to arrive by the end of the year, with the remaining three to be delivered next year.

The six-car Metropolis train accommodates up to 1,200 passengers, with 216 seats available. Its on-board CBTC system enables the intervals to be shortened to 90 seconds, increasing the lines’s capacity by 30%.

In 2020, Alstom and Metrorex, the Bucharest metro operator, signed a contract for 13 trains and an option for an additional 17. The deliveries were expected in mid-2022, but were postponed several times. According to Romanian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu, the manufacturer was fined EUR 22 mln for the failed delivery.
