Czechia: The Prague Public Transit Company DPP has announced a tender worth €3.4 bln for the automation of the city’s C and D metro lines up to the highest unmanned level, GoA4, and modernisation of infrastructure, including installation of platform screen doors, upgrade of depot facilities, and construction of control rooms.
The tender also includes the supply of 16 five-car metro trains for the future line D which is currently being built, and 53 five-car metro trains for the existing line C. The latter trainsets ought to replace a fleet of 53 M1 trains which were delivered between 2000 and 2003 initially by the Czech manufacturer ČKD, and then by Siemens, after the takeover of ČKD by the German company. The contract for the supply of 69 driverless light rail vehicles with their maintenance for 35 years will be awarded in October 2025. The rolling stock is expected to enter service in 2029.
According to DPP, introducing a fully automated metro system will make possible to shorten the intervals to 90 seconds, as well as to increase the line C transport capacity by 20%.
