Brief overview of key events and news in the rail rolling stock markets.
Wabtec and Alstom facilities based in Kazakhstan are on track to produce 145 locomotives this year, as LogiStan quotes an announcement made during a visit of Nurzhan Kelbuganov, deputy chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport, to the facilities. Wabtec-owned LKZ is to produce 57 freight, 26 passenger and 18 shunting diesel locomotives, while Alstom-owned EKZ will manufacture 44 freight and passenger electric locomotives.
SNCF has exercised another €650 mln option for 35 Alstom X’Trapolis Cityduplex EMUs. The six-car partially double-deck trains will enter passenger service on Line E in the Paris suburbs. The manufacturer is to deliver 255 trains under a €3.7 bln framework contract awarded in January 2017. Following the launch of the first X’Trapolis Cityduplex in November, 14 such trains are now in service.

The Municipality of Bologna has issued a €246 mln tender for the supply of up to 60 bi-directional trams. The firm order covers 33 cars, worth €135.3 mln, and their four-year maintenance. The first tram is due to be delivered 20 months after the award.
Galison, South Africa, has delivered 50 multipurpose flatcars to Congo and Zambia to an undisclosed customer. The rolling stock is suitable for transporting both containers and bags of copper and sulphur, allowing for raising the sides during their transport.

PC Transport Systems has delivered five two-car Bogatyr and one single-car Lvionok trams to Saratov, Russia, ahead of schedule. In November 2023, the company won a tender, for which the Russian government’s reserve fund allocated RUB 700 mln. The city is now preparing to purchase another 30 trams.
