Russia: As PC Transport Systems, PC TS, told ROLLINGSTOCK, it will be fulfilling orders with different terms and for trams with different numbers of cars in 2024.
The backlog of orders ensures full utilisation of the current production capacity. Under existing contracts, the company will deliver trams to St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Tula, and Novotroitsk next year. Recently, PC TS was the only bidder in a tender to supply six trams to Saratov. The future contract will include one single-car and five two-car trams. The Moscow government has just announced its plans to resume LRV procurement in 2024, and PC TS was previously its main supplier.
The company reported that the production of trams with different numbers of cars will amount to 171 in 2023. Although PC TS had previously announced plans to produce around 200 trams per year, the import substitution of bogie elements has somewhat limited the possibilities of achieving this target.
In November, another manufacturer, Ust-Katav Car-building Plant, also announced plans to produce 137 low-floor trams in 2024. Due to high demand, the company plans to open a new workshop next year.
