Kazakhstan: This was announced by Nurlan Sauranbayev, CEO of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KTZ.
At the end of last year, the national operator ordered 537 passenger coaches from Stadler and placed the Tulpar plant under its management.
The Kazinform news agency quoted Sauranbayev as saying that the French company Constellium supplies aluminium blanks for rolling stock to Stadler, and “will consider the possibility of manufacturing Kazakh cars using the blanks from the Pavlodar Alumina Plant”. KTZ’s CEO believes that in such a case, the level of component localisation will be “very high”. The national operator expects to receive the first Stadler coaches in 2025, while the Swiss manufacturer plans to reach 35% local content by 2030.
Today, the main supplier of passenger coaches to KTZ is the local freight car manufacturer ZIKSTO. As Kazakhstan’s transport minister Marat Karabayev has reported this week, the operator will receive 100 passenger coaches by the end of the year, with 76 already in service, and another 62 in H1 2024.
