Austria: The company declared that its products are compatible with fuel based on hydrogenated vegetable oil, HVO100.
The biofuel is produced in compliance with the European EN 15940 standard from renewable raw materials. Plasser & Theurer claims that the fuel is climate neutral, and its use allows to reduce CO2 emissions by 70–90% compared with diesel, while also lowering emissions of particulates and nitrogen oxide.
The company considers biofuel an intermediary solution in cases when the use of E3 hybrid machines is inefficient. HVO100 is said to be harmless for the engine and doesn’t require changes to operation or additional training of personnel. This was proven by the field tests of the GAF 746 track machine, which runs on HVO100. The tests were carried out in cooperation with the German infrastructure operator DB Netze (DB InfraGO, since December 2023).
