Brief overview of key events and news in the rail rolling stock markets.

🇮🇶 The national Ministry of Transport plans to purchase 50 passenger trains and 50 locomotives. The new trains will supposedly be put in service on a future 1,200 km line that will connect the northern and southern regions of the country. Earlier, the government of Iraq announced its intention to purchase rolling stock with a maximum speed of up to 300 km/h.

🇭🇺 🇧🇬 Stadler has been ordered 20 FLIRT trains for the Eastern Europe. Following a tender announced in November 2022, the train builder signed a contract with GySEV, a Hungarian-Austrian operator, for the delivery of nine bi-system low-floor electric trains with an option for four additional vehicles. The commissioning of the first five-car trainsets is expected in 2027. Stalder has also won a tender for seven double-decker trains to be delivered to Bulgaria within 26 months. The price offered was BGN 300.5 mln (€153.3 mln), with an initial price of BGN 410 mln (€209.2 mln).

🇨🇦 Canadian National, a freight railway operator, has ordered 600 hopper wagons from FreightCar America for DMIR, its subsidiary in Minnesota, USA, to transport iron ore. The 32.5 m3 vehicles, with a payload of about 110 t, will be built in Mexico.

🇦🇺 CRRC has started deliveries of 212 flatcars to an undisclosed customer in Australia. The rolling stock is reportedly designed to meet the standards of the Association of American Railroads and Standards Australia.

🇷🇺 RZD has announced a tender for the delivery of 15 railway cranes with a maximum lifting capacity on outriggers of at least 25 t. The initial price, including VAT and transportation, is RUB 504.7 mln ($5.44 mln). The cranes are expected to be delivered between September 2024 and August 2028, following the award of the tender on 25 April.
