Italy: The Japanese manufacturer plans to produce a EuroMasaccio regional train by 2027.
The new train will be based on the Masaccio platform, which is also used for 43 Blues trains currently being supplied under a contract with the Italian operator Trenitalia. The four-car Blues train was one of the major highlights of the InnoTrans fair in 2022.
Like the Blues, EuroMasaccio will be powered by a catenary, two batteries, and an engine. The operational range of the batteries will be 12 km. At the same time, DC or AC modifications can be developed. Hitachi Rail expects that customers from the Central Europe, notably Germany and France, will be interested in this rolling stock, and that this model will become a cheaper alternative to battery and hydrogen electric trains from other manufacturers.
