Ghana: The accident took place on Thursday, April 18, around kilometre 76 of the Tema–Mpakadan Railway Line.
The two-car diesel train collided with a KIA truck left by its driver on the railway track.
According to the Ministry of Railways Development of Ghana, the DMU driver had immediately applied the emergency braking system but nevertheless the train got into a head-on collision with the stationary vehicle. Thankfully, there were no injuries among bystanders and those who were on board the train. As for the rolling stock, the head car suffered minor damage, as noted by the ministry. After that, the train on its own proceeded to the Tema depot where engineers of the Polish manufacturer would conduct necessary repairs. The authorities of Ghana have announced that their independent investigation is currently underway.
The first Regio160 train was delivered to Ghana in early April, and another DMU of this series will be supplied soon. The passenger transportation on the Tema–Mpakadan Railway Line is expected to commence in May.
