Canada: Last week, the city operator Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) received a five-car tram built at the Thunder Bay plant. The Flexity LRV is designed to accommodate 130 people, 70 of them seated.
Given the conditions in the Canadian city, the tram is tailored for unidirectional operation on a 1,495 mm gauge track. With a car length of 28 m, it passes curves of only 11 m.
The city will receive 60 Flexity trams over the next two years as part of a €275 mln contract of 2021. They will join the fleet of 204 vehicles of this series supplied by Bombardier Transportation (acquired by Alstom in 2021) in 2012–2020. At the same time, the operator has repeatedly complained about the quality of the assembly work. TTC cited failures in the operation of control and traction systems, doors, and electrical equipment as well as flawed welding and wheel squealing.
