Brief overview of key events and news in the rail rolling stock markets.

🇫🇷 The national railway company SNCF has launched a tender for up to 180 hybrid trains in two lots. The first is for up to 30 trains with DC and AC catenary traction and hydrogen fuel cells with a range of 600 km, while the second is for up to 150 trains with catenary traction and batteries with a minimum range of 100 km. The rolling stock can also be equipped with more powerful batteries and a biofuel internal combustion engine. Alstom’s hybrid hydrogen trains have already been ordered by several French regions in 2021 and will be tested this year.

🇮🇳 The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has reopened the tender announced in July for the supply of 108 metro cars. The tender, worth INR 20.6 bln ($248.7 mln), also includes the supply of signalling systems and platform doors for the sixth metro line which is now under construction.

🇪🇸 Tatravagonka and the Spanish national railway operator Renfe have signed a €39 mln contract for the supply of 149 freight cars. The manufacturer will deliver 75 Sdggmrss piggyback wagons and 74 60-foot Sgnss container flatcars. Part of the purchase will be financed by EU funds.

🇷🇺 Altaivagon will deliver 2,000 tank cars to one of the Russian rail operators RAILGO by 2026, the operator’s general director Rakhman Khalilov told InfraNews. In the summer of 2023, it was reported that the manufacturer had received a large order for 15-2167-01 tank cars, but the news spoke of 1,500 cars to be delivered in 2023 and 2024.

🇷🇺 The city of Khabarovsk has opened a previously announced tender for the supply of ten single-car partially low-floor trams. The initial purchase price is RUB 800.8 mln ($8.8 mln) or RUB 80.1 mln ($0.88 mln) per tram. The minimum passenger capacity is 150 people, of which 28 are seated. The results will be announced on 14 February, with deliveries due by October.
