India: UPMRC has launched nine three-car trains. These will be in service on the 5.2 km stretch of the first metro line with six stations, passing through the Taj Mahal and other landmarks of the city. The Agra Metro will eventually have two lines totalling 29.4 km with 29 stations.
The contract for the supply of 28 Movia trains and controlling systems was signed in July 2020 with Bombardier, which was acquired by Alstom a year later. The first train was delivered exactly one year ago.
The stainless steel body train is designed at Alstom’s engineering centre in Hyderabad and manufactured at a plant in Savli. While accommodating 974 passengers, the Movia runs at a speed of 80 km/h. According to Alstom, Flexx bogies and Mitrac traction drive control improve energy efficiency and lower operating costs.
