Turkiye: The national operator TCDD plans to purchase 95 electric and 20 diesel mainline locomotives, seven battery and one hybrid shunting locomotive, 56 electric trains, 49 passenger coaches, and track machines.

Of the TRY 73 bln ($2.4 bln) earmarked for this purpose, TRY 5 bln ($160 mln) is a confirmed grant from the country’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for 2024. An additional TRY 8.5 bln ($275 mln) has been allocated this year to refurbish 1,154 passenger coaches and 2,543 freight cars.

Turkiye is implementing a strategy to develop national production. Since 2023, the state-owned Türasaş has been producing domestically developed E44000 regional electric trains, which formed a basis for the 225 km/h electric train currently under development. In cooperation with TÜBİTAK RUTE, a rail transport technologies institute, the company has also developed the E5000 electric locomotive and diesel engine.
