Uzbekistan: This was announced during the recent visit of the country’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to a site of the national operator O‘zbekiston temir yo‘llari in Tashkent.

In 2023, the Foundry Mechanical Factory (FMF) exported spare parts and 170 freight cars, including the September batch of hoppers for Kazakhstan, for a total of $10 mln, with the annual output of UZS 267 bln ($21.4 mln).

The factory’s current production capacities enable the building of 1,200 freight cars, repair of 1,500 cars, and casting of 26,000 t annually. The factory has 26 shops, including those for building, repairing, and assembling cars, making wheels, and producing metal structures and components. Last year, FMF completed a 5-year programme to localise about 100 types of products.

On the same day, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited another site of the national operator, the Tashkent plant for the construction and repair of passenger wagons (TYVQTZ). Last year, the plant manufactured and repaired 319 passenger coaches with a localisation level of 70%. In previous years, it built over 300 passenger and special purpose coaches, exporting over 50 of them, and overhauled 112 metro cars. This year’s plans involve manufacturing special-purpose coaches for mining companies and designing new coaches with more spacious compartments.

The President was presented with a project to organise the production of electric and metro trains at TYVQTZ. However, no details are currently available.
