USA: Iron Senergy uses the first ReVolt hopper wagon, converted to battery traction by startup Intramotev, on a 27.3 km private rail line, which connects its Cumberland Mine with its Alicia Harbour terminal.
The company is to receive an additional two vehicles under the contract.
Although, the ReVolt is a self-propelled car, it wasn’t developed by Intramotev with the help of a grant it received last year for the deployment of self-propelled cars. Placed in front of the set of freight cars, the ReVolt is designed to use its batteries to capture additional propulsion energy from regenerative braking, thereby reducing a diesel locomotive’s fuel consumption. However, the details of the technology are not disclosed.
Another development from Intramotev, the autonomous battery-electric TugVolt cars, is to be launched at a calcium mine in Northern Michigan this year as well.
