EU: The companies have already signed a preliminary agreement for the sale of a part of Hitachi Rail STS.

The business, which specialises in mainline signalling systems, has two French production sites in Riom and Les Ulis and related units in Germany and the UK, employing a total of 550 people. The date and price of the sale are not disclosed.

The sale of some of Hitachi Rail’s assets in Europe was a key condition for the completion of the purchase of Thales GTS, France. European regulators approved the €1.7 bln deal in October 2023, after Hitachi Rail had committed to do so. Thales GTS specialises in the manufacture of signalling and control systems for rolling stock and is involved in cybersecurity and AI developments for transport and autonomous trains.
