Sweden: The new 10,000 m² complex employs around 500 people in several of the company’s business areas: development of rolling stock, components and signalling systems, and provision of maintenance services.

The centre also houses a laboratory for testing the performance and reliability of powertrain innovations before they go into service.

The new centre complements the existing Västerås electric motor plant. In total, Alstom has 16 service and three engineering centres in the country.

According to Alstom, more than 1,000 trains manufactured in its plants operate on Sweden’s rail networks. In 2022, the company signed an agreement with the Swedish national operator SJ to supply 25 Zefiro Express high-speed EMUs from 2026. Also Alstom is also leading the ERTMS rollout in Sweden both onboard and trackside and is delivering the new standard national traffic management system for Trafikverket.
