India: In Chennai, the production unit Integral Coach Factory (ICF), part of the national operator Indian Railways, manufactured 1,091 cars for electric and diesel trains from April 2023 to March 2024.

This includes 51 Vande Bharat EMUs, of which 45 are eight-car and six are 16-car, and 19 self-propelled inspection cars. Earlier, the largest production volume of multiple units, 996 vehicles, was recorded in FY 2019.

In the same FY 2023, ICF assembled 1,738 passenger coaches modelled after the German LHB, including 22 units for the new Vande Sadharan push-pull train. In total, the volume of rolling stock manufactured by the plant in FY 2023 exceeded the amount of the same period last year by 4.7%.
