Germany: The firm part of the German national operator’s tender includes 33 trains designed to operate at a maximum speed of 300 km/h.
The future train must have 940 seats and be no longer than 400 m.
Under the terms of procurement, the operator can select only three candidates whose bids have received the maximum number of points. The contract is scheduled to be concluded in spring 2025. The new fleet will be put into operation from early 2030 to replace the ageing ICE 3 trains, which have been supplied since 1999, and to increase the volume of high-speed services.
Last November, Siemens Mobility and Alstom won a tender from a subsidiary of the German operator, DB Fernverkehr, to conceptualise two series models of single-deck high-speed EMUs. With their help, the operator is said to have detailed its purchasing requirements.
