Australia: The six-car train started operation between Perth and its suburbs Mandurah and Joondalup.
Based on Alstom’s X’trapolis platform, the C-series train can accommodate 1,200 people, with 400 of them seated, and reach peak speeds of 130 km/h.
The rail contract was concluded with the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia in 2019. The €800 mln deal envisages the delivery of 41 such EMUs and two diesel trains within seven years with a 20-year maintenance, achieving at least 50% local content on EMUs ensured by the participation of 15 local manufacturers.
This project saw Alstom set its third local rolling stock production in Perth in 2021, with the other two facilities operating in Ballarat and Dandenong. This move marks the return of train manufacturing to the State of Western Australia, which ceased about 30 years ago.
