USA: A $390 mln framework contract with the German manufacturer has been signed with the local operator Bi-State Development Agency.
Under the terms of the contract, Siemens Mobility will supply 24 trams and diagnostic equipment. $196 mln of the project costs will be financed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The high-floor two-car S200 LRVs will begin passenger service in 2026. They will gradually replace the Siemens SD400s manufactured between 1991 and 1993 on the local MetroLink light rail system.
The S200 LRVs have been specially designed for the North American market. They are in service in Calgary and San Francisco and have been ordered for Cleveland. The total number of vehicles delivered or to be delivered under signed contracts exceeds 380 vehicles. Siemens Mobility manufactures the S200 and low-floor S700 (for Portland, Sacramento, Saint Paul, and Santa Ana) are manufactured at its Sacramento plant, and plans to open a second plant in North Carolina next year.
