CRRC’s Turkiye plant produces first unmanned metro train

Turkiye: The four-car train designed for Line M11 of the Istanbul metro rolled off the line at CRRC’s plant in Ankara earlier this year.

The $221.8 mln contract covers the delivery of 44 trains. The first ten were previously produced at CRRC’s Zhuzhou plant and entered service in January 2023.

The trains can accommodate 1,142 passengers and travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. It’s said to be the fastest metro train in Europe.

The first trainset was assembled in nine months. According to the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, CRRC will manufacture another 14 vehicles this year, with a localisation level of 60%. The trains are reported to be fitted with Turkish engines with a localisation level of 73%, batteries, metal bellows, bodies, seats, air conditioning, lighting, and other components.
