Italy: The Turkish manufacturer has been selected to supply ten bi-directional low-floor trams to Naples, Italy, with an option for a further ten.

Another bidder in the same tender was Hitachi Rail, which supplied 22 three-car Sirio trams between 2004 and 2006. Previously, Bozankaya had won contracts in the EU only in Romania: these were for five-car trams for Timisoara and Iasi.

Bozankaya has reportedly offered to execute the order for €63 mln, which is 13.2% below the starting price. The contract is expected to be signed at the end of the appeal period, with deliveries scheduled from June 2025 to November 2026.

The Italian media point out that Bozankaya is offering Naples the trams on the same platform that it has already supplied to Kayseri, Antalya, and other Turkish cities. The 33 m bi-directional five-car vehicles can carry up to 300 passengers, 66 of them seated.

Updated 26/01/2023: According to Bozankaya’s PR-representative in Romania, the five-car tram for Naples will be bi-directional, 30 m long and carry up to 222 passengers.
