Spain: The German leasing company has ordered rolling stock from Tatravagonka, Slovakia.

Under the terms of the contract, the manufacturer will supply the six-axle T4000 articulated flatcars for transporting containers and semi-trailers and installing swap bodies. With a top speed of 120 km/h, the flatcar has a payload of 84 t, which can be increased to 98 t if the speed is limited to 100 km/h. The vehicle is compatible with R2L pallets, so any semi-trailer up to 15.1 m in length can be loaded in minutes using a standard crane.

What distinguishes this flatcar from other similar vehicles is its ability to operate on both 1,435 mm and 1,668 mm gauge tracks. To ensure this, the flatcars are fitted with hooks to lift the bogie frames to change wheel sets and switch from one gauge to another.

By the end of the year, VTG is expected to deliver 200 of these vehicles and 199 container flatcars to Spain as part of a €37.7 mln grant awarded by the government as part of the transport decarbonisation programme.
