Italy: According to the German company, the components will be installed on new metro trains in the coming weeks.
This is the first batch of automatic couplers Knorr-Bremse supplied for passenger rolling stock. Final testing of the couplers took place at Knorr-Bremse’s Budapest site.
The companies signed a framework contract for couplers, braking and door systems for 46 metro trains in February last year. Deliveries are expected to be completed in Q1 2026. These components are intended for the trains Hitachi Rail is to deliver for the Milan Metro. In November 2022, the manufacturer won the tender for 21 trains, with an option for a further 25 vehicles.
Since 2019, Knorr-Bremse has developed the AutoLink coupler and the ShortLink semi-permanent coupler for passenger trains as well as the FreightLink digital coupler for freight trains. By 2030, the company aims to become the leading supplier of digital automatic couplers and other technical solutions for freight train automation.
