Germany: An economically viable three-car modification of the Mireo platform was unveiled at the plant in Krefeld. The company claims that it will take no more than 18 months from contract signing to delivery.
The train has a space for 214 seated passengers and 21 bicycles. The manufacturer promises a maximum speed of 160 km/h with an acceleration of up to 0.96 m/s2. The train is equipped with passenger information and security monitoring systems and has displays in the entry areas.
This spring it was reported that the first six Mireo Smart for 15 kV AC lines had been assembled for an undisclosed customer.
The manufacturer announced the project in November 2020, highlighting that the trains come at an attractive price, have low maintenance costs, and are a sensible alternative to refurbishment. The new EMU is compatible with the Mireo and Desiro HC trains.
According to Railvolution referring to the presentation of Siemens Mobility, the train costs €6.8 mln, and Siemens Mobility may reduce the price for large orders only. The Mireo Smart will be available in three configurations: a three-car EMU for 15 kV lines, a three-car hybrid train powered by 15 kV AC catenary and batteries, and a two-car hydrogen train. Production will take place at the Krefeld plant, and the first two pre-series trains are now tested at the Wegberg-Wildenrath test and validation centre in Germany until January 2024.
