USA: For the tender of California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA), the German manufacturer is proposing a train based on the Velaro Novo platform.
Although, it has already presented the concept that develops the Velaro and started testing a prototype in 2018, a full-scale vehicle has not yet been unveiled.
Siemens has announced several improvements to the Velaro Novo compared to the previous generation. With a lighter carbody and better aerodynamics, the train will weigh 15% less and be up to 30% more energy efficient. It will carry 10% more passengers. A predictive diagnostics system will enable the operator to reduce maintenance costs by 30%, believes the manufacturer.

The rolling stock is envisaged for the Merced–Bakersfield line. The US Federal Railroad Administration has recently approved $3.1 bln for the construction of the line and the purchase of six trains that will operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/h.
