RegionAlps unveils production process of first FLIRT Evo EMU by Stadler

Switzerland: On its social media accounts, the Swiss passenger operator has published a video demonstrating the final assembly of the first four-car FLIRT Evo electric train at the production site in Bussnang.

The vehicle, produced at the end of last year, has been undergoing operational tests on public networks since February.

The contract with Stadler worth €1.8 bln was signed in the summer of 2022. According to the agreement, the national passenger operator SBB and its subsidiaries Thurbo and RegionAlps are to receive 286 single-deck three- and four-car FLIRTs with an option for a further 224 trains. The first EMUs are expected to enter service in 2026, and the final deliveries are planned for 2034.

The three-car trains of 57.8 m have a maximum capacity of 256 passengers, including 134 seated. The four-car EMUs of 73.5 m can accommodate 370 passengers, including 146 seated.
