Poland: According to the Polish national operator, it has received bids for a PLN 4.3 bln (€971.5 mln) contract to procure 300 coaches with an option for 150. The bids came from the two local manufacturers, Newag and FPS.

PKP Intercity expected offers for seven lots. Newag has applied for the supply of 80 second-class sitting coaches and 40 couchette coaches. FPS is ready to deliver 38 dining, 26 sleeping, and 38 first-class couchette coaches. Both manufacturers offered to supply 38 coaches with seats for people with limited mobility and 40 second-class non-couchette coaches. On average, Newag’s offer is 22% higher than that of FPS. Meanwhile, each bid exceeds the initial value of the entire tender.

PKP Intercity will now have to check the proposals for compliance with the requirements. Delivery of the rolling stock is due to begin in 2025.
