China: A fleet of 4 four-car CINOVA2.0 trains with a maximum speed of 200 km/h have entered service in the province of Hubei.
The smart EMU was first introduced at a transportation expo in Qingdao, in April 2023. It is stated that its streamlined body made with carbon fibre composite materials is 10% lighter and 5% less air resistant. Besides, such a construction reduces energy consumption by 1.2 kWh per kilometre in comparison with other trains.
The new train mainly boasts multiple digital innovations. It is noted that, for the first time, the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) has been integrated to assist drivers in managing traction relying on the electricity consumption data the system provides. All in all, the CINOVA2.0 has 30 basic configurations to set the system according to various operating conditions. Moreover, a full digital twin of the train operates simultaneously receiving information from more than 2,000 sensors and using 130 software algorithms to perform predictive analytics of equipment failures. The use of the digital twin technology is expected to reduce the maintenance costs by 30%.
