Netherlands: All of the bidders selected by the passenger transport operator refused to submit a bid, leading Arriva to cancel the tender.

The tender, announced late last year, involved supplying four hydrogen trains with an option for two additional units. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the trains were planned to operate on regional lines in the provinces of Groningen and Friesland in the northern Netherlands. The tender was published following the successful tests of the Alstom Coradia iLint hydrogen train in the Netherlands in 2020.

February saw Arriva Nederland transfer its fleet of 50 GTW diesel and 18 WINK trains to a hydrotreated vegetable oil traction. However, already in May the operator announced that most of its trains were reverted to diesel due to the high cost of biofuel at the time.
