Israel takes delivery of Siemens Mobility trains and Alstom electric locomotives

Israel: The national operator Israel Railways has started to take delivery of a new batch of Desiro HC partially double-deck EMUs, comprising 36 six-car sets, which will enter service within a year.

A 12-car train accommodates 1,300 people and has room for 18 bicycles. A €900 mln contract to supply 60 such trains was signed in 2018. The first 24 trains were delivered in 2020–2021.

Alstom has also delivered four Traxx electric locomotives to the Israel Railways, which will be put into operation shortly. They are part of a contract signed in 2015 for 63 such locomotives, which is due by the end of the year.

2023 saw the operator approval of a €1.7 bln procurement programme, which includes another 81 Desiro HC trains and 96 Alstom double-deck cars.
