South Korea: A fleet of 20 eight-car trains started running on the 35 km route of the GTX-A express commuter line, which includes four stations.

The trains reportedly reach speeds of 180 km/h and run at 15-m intervals during peak hours. It took 14 months to build the $276.2 mln rolling stock ordered in 2020. Last year, it was tested on lines.

The head cars of the A000 EMUs are equipped with AI cameras on their roofs to monitor the condition of the infrastructure. The automatic doors have dual anti-pinch sensors and noise protection to reduce passenger discomfort to passengers at high speeds, according to the manufacturer. Information screens display the speed and occupancy level of each car for any of the over 1,000 passengers on board.
