Spain: In the beginning of March, the Spanish island saw the delivery of a four-car trainset to the operator SFM.
The train, assembled at the site in Zaragoza, had been tested at the Iruna plant since the end of last year. Now it will undergo trials on the rail network, before being cleared for service in June. The four remaining EMUs are to be put into operation in September.
Concluded in 2022, the €54.6 mln contract provides for the delivery of five trains and their two-year maintenance. 90% of the purchase is financed by the REACT-EU programme that promotes the recovery of the EU following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The trains are designed to operate at a maximum speed of 100 km/h. They are modelled after the existing CAF train for the Spanish operator Euskotrenbideak-Ferrocarriles Vascos S.A., which runs the 1,000 mm-gauge rail network. The aluminium-bodied EMU has two powered- and two intermediate trailing cars with a capacity of more than 500 passengers.
