Denmark: The national operator DSB has announced the start of dynamic testing of the first 13-coach Talgo 230 train, designed to run at 200 km/h.

The second phase of testing is expected to include tests with a non-motor coach with a control cab to enable push-pull operation.

With a lightweight body and special running gear design, the Talgo 230 trains are said to consume 30% less energy than required by industry standards. The trains are also 95% recyclable.

In February 2020, DSB signed a €500 mln framework agreement with Talgo. In addition to eight 13-coach trains under its firm part, the operator exercised an option for a further eight trains in April 2023. The vehicles are expected to enter service this year on the Copenhagen–Aarhus–Hamburg line, hauled by Siemens Mobility’s Vectron electric locomotives.
