Portugal: Under the terms of the contract with the state passenger operator Comboios de Portugal, CP, the manufacturer will supply 117 trains for €819 mln.
The tender was announced for 2021, and besides Alstom, CAF and Stadler have been admitted to the second stage.
According to the newspaper Eco, as the winning bidder Alstom committed to build a plant in Matosinhos for about 300 employees, in cooperation with the local DST. This is part of the Portuguese authorities’ plans to revive of rolling stock production in the country.
All trains will be AC/DC dual-system vehicles intended for regional (55 vehicles) and suburban passenger service (62 vehicles). Alstom is expected to manufacture, certify, and deliver the first four-car trains 40 months after the contract is signed, and they are scheduled to enter service in 2029.
