Iran: The prototype 3.6 MW MAP30 locomotive was unveiled during a visit by Abbas Aliabadi, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, to the Mapna Group’s MLC plant in Karaj.
The vehicle will reportedly be certified and its serial production will begin by March 2025. Sepahran Rail Rasa, a freight rail operator, and Chadormello, a mining company, have already ordered 20 locomotives.
The MAP30 was designed based on the six-axle AD43C. In 1998, Iran ordered 120 locomotives from Alstom, and 100 of which were finally assembled at a plant of Wagon Pars, a part of the Mapna Group. The declared localisation level of the MAP30 is 80%, and the locomotive’s body and control systems are manufactured in the country.
Now, Iran’s locomotive fleet consists of 997 vehicles, half of which are out of service due to a lack of spare parts and repair materials.
