Germany: The first locomotives, which can be operated both with diesel and electric power, were unveiled at the Halle marshalling yard, Germany, where they will be put into operation.

The new vehicle has a lower axel load of 21 tf compared to Vectron Dual Mode, which allows it to be used in mainline and shunting operations.

The Vectron Dual Mode Light is fitted with the Cummins QST30-L diesel engine, which can run on biofuel. With a power of 2,210 kW in catenary mode and 750 kW in autonomous mode, the locomotive has a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a starting tractive effort of 300 kN.

Siemens Mobility is to supply 146 such locomotives to DB Cargo and four to DB Bahnbau Gruppe GmbH under the 2020 contract and the 2022 option. The operator estimates that this move is projected to save 12 mln l of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by 25,000 t per year.
