Ireland: The fully automatic, four-axle 705 series ballast regulator is designed to operate on 1,600 gauge tracks.
Lidars are stated to allow it to scan the ballast profile and generate reports on its properties. The machine automatically redistributes and tamps the ballast to achieve the required profile using the loaded data.

The vehicle is equipped with a diagnostics system and an array of cameras that give the driver a clear view of the track around the machine. It takes just ten minutes for a single operator to change the brushes that sweep the excess ballast off the sleepers.
Once adapted and certified, the Swiss company Rhomberg Sersa will operate the ballast regulator under a seven-year infrastructure maintenance contract.
