Recent deals and tenders in the track machine market.

Russia — Sinara – Transport Machines (STM) and PTK Group have presented their reports on the deliveries of track machinery for Russian Railways (RZD) in 2025. The Kalugaputmash plant, part of STM, supplied the operator with 30 MPK self-propelled motor flatcars, six PSS-2P snow removal trains, three PPK flatcars for transportation of switches, and two UK-25/28SP track laying cranes. For its part, PTK Group’s subsidiary Tulazheldormash provided RZD with eight track maintenance trains, three SS-POM snow removal machines, two RU-700 track laying machines, two snow ploughs, and one MPV primary surfacing machine. As it was previously announced by RZD, over 60 new track machines were put in operation in 2025.

China — CRRC plans to build three NSG1256 railway rescue cranes for the country’s high-speed networks. The rolling stock has been ordered by the national operator China Railway. The NSG1256, certified in late 2022, is designed specifically for HSR lines and features a payload of 125 t.

Sweden, Germany — Plasser & Theurer and Robel have received orders for hybrid track machines. The Swedish transport administration Trafikverket has signed a SEK 1 bln (€94 mln) contract with Plasser & Theurer for the delivery of three track maintenance trains with an option for two more sets. The diesel-catenary machines are scheduled for supply between 2030 and 2033. Meanwhile, the German infrastructure company DB InfraGO has concluded an agreement with the JV Plasser Robel Services for the lease of 13 catenary maintenance machines. The rolling stock is due to be delivered by the end of 2029, while the contract provides for the procurement of the vehicles in two years.

Austria — The infrastructure operator OBB-Infrastruktur plans to purchase up to 300 wagons for ballast transportation. As published in the prior notification, there is also an option for an additional 200 vehicles. The wagons ought to be fitted with the telemetry systems to align with the existing fleet. The requirements also include the possibility to install DAC digital couplers. The deliveries are scheduled to start in 2028.

Ireland — Irish Rail has placed an order for 68 infrastructure maintenance flatcars with WH Davis, UK. The rolling stock will be used for the transportation of rails, sleepers, and other track components. The new wagons will feature a payload of 60 t each, which is more by a third than the capacity of the deployed fleet. The €23 mln contract is an option to the framework contract which has already covered the delivery of 150 freight cars. The new flatcars are planned to be supplied and commissioned in 2027.

Malaysia — American Harsco Rail has sent its rail grinding machine to the Southeast Asian country. The single-section RGH10C1 Grinder with 10 grinding stones is designed to manage track sections with up to 6‰ gradients and pass curves of up to 20 m. The customer is the Malaysian national public transport operator Prasarana.
