Italy: The local manufacturer has handed over the Tipo 4 machine to the country’s infrastructure operator RFI. In 2022, the company won a tender and now is implementing a contract for 44 track maintenance vehicles.
The Tipo 4 is designed for diagnostics of railway infrastructure and has a range of speeds up to 140 km/h. It can inspect main lines as well as non-public networks and tracks at marshalling yards. The bi-modal rolling stock can be powered by the 3 kV DC catenary or diesel engine.

The machine is equipped with sensors and 15 diagnostic systems to measure the track geometry and wear, condition of the overhead line, and also the wheel/rail and pantograph/catenary interaction. While the cameras are providing video monitoring of the track and catenary, other equipment is measuring the quality of telecommunication signals and work of signalling systems.
