India: The manufacturer has secured its first-ever contract for 62 self-propelled track vehicles for the inspection and maintenance of railways and catenary.

The contract signed with the national operator Indian Railways is valued at INR 2.7 bln (USD 30.3 mln), including VAT. Titagarh Rail Systems (TRSL) will also be in charge of long-term maintenance service and staff training. The delivery of the whole fleet and full set of spare parts is due to be complete within four years from the contract signing.

As reported, the machines ought to be indigenously designed by TRSL. This is an important milestone for the company, as currently the Indian rail market of track vehicles is mainly represented by foreign players that are establishing JVs to localise production under the Make in India programme. In particular, Plasser & Theurer is now the largest supplier of track machines for Indian Railways. In 2019, the Austrian company launched its local assembly plant in Karjan.

Titagarh Rail Systems (TRSL) is one of the leading private rolling stock producers in India, where it owns three plants and is expanding its production facilities. In addition, TRSL operates three Italian sites, acquired in the mid-2010s from Firema Trasporti. The company’s ambitious goal is to become a global rolling stock market player, having annual revenue over $10 bln.
