Russia: This objective is included into the plant’s (a subsidiary of Sinara – Transport Machines, STM, Russia) investment plan presented at the conference that took place at the Ural Locomotives site.
The event was attended by representatives of the regional Ministry of Industry and Science and the Committee for technical regulation of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. Currently, Ural Locomotives produces up to 200 cars for the regional Finist ES104 EMUs per year.
In particular, the plan to increase the plant’s production capacity stems from a goal to develop high-speed rolling stock manufacturing. The first batch would consist of 28 eight-car trainsets, and the contract with RZD for two prototype trains has been already signed. Meanwhile, at the government meeting in March, it was announced that a total of RUB 35 bln ($388 mln) would be allocated to Ural Locomotives to develop new rolling stock manufacturing. Notably, two additional buildings are to be constructed to allow for serial production of high-speed vehicles. The relevant project on increasing the plant’s production capacity was elaborated a few years ago.
