USA: It is planned to add two new assembly facilities, a welding workshop, a sandblasting booth, and a train battery charging station to the manufacturer’s Salt Lake City plant.

A $70 mln investment will contribute to the existing site’s enlargement by 2.3 ha and the staff increasing from 500 to 800 employees within three years.

The Utah authorities have awarded Stadler an annual property tax differential rebate equivalent to 10% of the assessed property tax. The rebate will be provided over a 25-year period, contingent upon ongoing operations of the Salt Lake City plant during that time. It is worth noting that the US site was separated from the Swiss headquarters on 1 January 2025, and now Stadler US is an independent division.

Opened in 2019, Stadler’s US plant was engaged in the assembly of double-deck EMUs for the San Francisco commuter network. Current projects include the manufacturing of catenary-battery trains for Chicago and hydrogen trains for California, metro trains for Atlanta and Los Angeles, as well as tram trains for Salt Lake City, among other orders. The 2024 results say that Stadler’s share of revenue from the American market is 7% with a 15% share of new orders.
