Switzerland: Stadler has submitted an application for a building permit for additional production, storage and office facilities at its St Margrethen site, which would increase the plant’s footprint by about 50% and create several hundred new jobs.

The company says the project is being driven by current and anticipated orders, which in 2024 reached a record value of €30.5 bln.

The St Margrethen plant, which opened in 2020, is Stadler’s third production facility in Switzerland after Bussnang – also home to the company’s headquarters – and Altenrhein. Covering around 40,000 m², the site specialises in the design and manufacture of double-deck trains as well as other rolling stock including trams, metro trains, narrow-gauge vehicles and passenger coaches.

St Margrethen is currently assembling KISS EMUs for Austrian operator ÖBB, while Stadler has recently secured an additional order from Swedish leasing company Transitio for 13 double-deck trains.
