Germany: The company has completed a €250 mln expansion project which was underway since 2023, increasing the facility’s footprint from 47,000 to 100,000 m² and workforce from 1,600 to 2,000 employees. By 2028, the site is expected to employ 2,500 personnel.
Reportedly, the upgraded plant is now capable of producing up to 385 Vectron locomotives and 180 Vectouro passenger cars annually. The manufacturer highlights that for the first time, all Vectron manufacturing processes are now consolidated under one roof. The facility will also become Siemens Mobility’s new headquarters. The modernisation includes expanded maintenance services, enabling up to 80 locomotive overhauls yearly by 2026. This investment responds to growing demand, with over 360 Vectron electric locomotives sold last year alone.
Established in the early 20th century and acquired by Siemens in 2001, the Munich–Allach plant became the primary Vectron production facility in 2010, manufacturing all four variants: DE (diesel), AC (alternating current), DC (direct current) and MS (multi-system) units. A dedicated service centre opened there in 2015.
