Germany: The certification, according to the ISO/ASTM 52920:2023 standard applied to additive manufacturing, was carried out by the specialised group TÜV Nord.
The German manufacturer, with expertise in 3D printing of units and components for rolling stock, says that the site in Erlangen became the first production facility in the world in this field, having received the certificate.
Siemens Mobility is actively developing 3D printing to produce components. To date, more than 31,000 spare parts have been manufactured. It is reported that the technology reduces delivery time by up to 90%, is less material-intensive, and more eco-friendly.
The company’s main scientific and production facilities are situated in Erlangen, where 3D printing of plastic, aluminium, and steel is mastered. The additive production of polymer parts is set in the Rail Service Center Dortmund-Eving. Additionally, Siemens plans to equip the under-construction Siemens Energy Charlotte Hub with 3D printers.
