Uzbekistan: The possible localisation was on the agenda of the meeting between representatives of the South Korean train builder and Jasurbek Choriyev, Deputy Minister of Transport. The activities are expected to take place at the Tashkent Passenger Car Construction and Repair Plant.
The parties to negotiations decided to further explore localisation opportunities and assess the feasibility of the project. Earlier, Hyundai Rotem had signed a contract with the national operator Uzbekistan Temir Yollari for the supply of six EMUs with a maximum commercial speed of 250 km/h.
The country discussed the localisation of train construction with Stadler in September. Other activities in this area relate to the development of Russian-Uzbek railway projects. In the spring, the Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with a project to set up its own production of electric trains at the Tashkent Passenger Car Construction and Repair Plant, but no further news on the project has been published.
